Who is eligible to play Intramural Sports?
All active undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and full-time staff members of The University of Alabama are eligible to participate in Intramural Sports. Spouses of eligible University of Alabama undergraduate and graduate students and Faculty/Staff are eligible to participate by purchasing a membership.
What do I need to participate in Intramural Sports?
Each participant must present his/her Action Card prior to each Intramural Sport event. There are equipment and uniforms required specific to each sport. Please review the sport-specific rules for those equipment criteria on IMLeagues under Handbooks & Rules.
What activities are offered by the Sport Programs Department?
The Sport Programs department offers a host of indoor and outdoor activities each semester. For a complete list of the current semester’s offerings, please see our Intramural Calendar.
What type of leagues are offered?
Men’s, women’s and co-recreational leagues are offered for each sport. When there is sufficient demand, a league may be split into competitive and recreational divisions.
Can I play on more than one team?
Yes, participants are able to play on more than one team. Participants can compete on one single-gender team and one co-recreational team per sport.
How can I participate in Intramural Sports if I do not have a team?
Participants hoping to join a team can sign up as a free agent through our online registration system. Team captains are able to view free agents and invite you to the team if they are looking to pick up extra players. Free agents are not guaranteed roster spots and are encouraged to form their own team.
What is a sportsmanship rating and how are they related to Intramural Sports?
Good sportsmanship is integral to every Intramural Sports contest. In order for sportsmanship to prevail, participants and fans must display respect, fairness, civility, honesty and respect before, during and after each contest. Each team in a contest shall earn a sportsmanship rating on a scale from zero to four determined by the staff on duty. Teams must earn a 3.0 average or better sportsmanship rating during the regular season to be eligible for playoffs.

I am interested in becoming an official. What should I do?
The Sport Programs department hires and trains sport officials each semester. Officials are needed for many Intramural Sports. No previous experience is necessary. Those interested must attend the training sessions related to the sport they would like to officiate.
