The Witt Center Climbing Wall boasts a 35 foot wall and 42 foot tower that offers bouldering, top rope and lead climbing. University Recreation hosts an annual climbing competition each spring that you don’t want to miss.
Climbing Competition
The 18th Annual T-Town Pull Down Climbing Competition returns Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026! Join us for a full day of friendly but fierce competition at the Robert E. Witt Student Activity Center on The University of Alabama campus. The climbing competition registration will open in early December.
Even if you’re not competing, come out and enjoy the energy of the climbing competition. Spectators are welcome to cheer on climbers, explore the venue and take in the excitement. The Pastor’s Kitchen food truck will be on-site throughout the event, offering great options for everyone to enjoy.
The competition includes three two-hour heats, all skill levels are welcome. Participants may compete in top rope, bouldering or combined. Awards will be given for first, second and third place in beginner, intermediate and advanced divisions. Top combined climbers will earn the event champion title and premium prizes.

Heats are assigned based on requests, travel distance and other factors. Climbers who register by Feb. 1 will receive their heat assignment on Feb. 2. Later registrations will be placed in remaining openings. Check-in begins 30 minutes before each heat.

The first visit to the climbing wall is free. After the first visit, members can select a semester, month or day pass option. All memberships include free shoe rental.
Climbing Wall Group Rental Rates

Top Rope
This course covers a basic understanding of top rope belaying. By taking this course, you will be taught industry-standard top rope belay fundamentals and techniques as well as the necessary knots and commands to climb at the Witt Climbing Wall.
Lead Climbing Belay Class
Our Lead Climbing Belay Class provides you with a foundation for the sport of lead climbing. Instructors will guide you through industry-standard belaying techniques, the importance of rope management, and proper lead climbing communication.
