Whether you’re cruising around campus or hitting the trails, our affordable rental options and on-site bike shop make it easy to ride with confidence. Need a tune-up or some quick maintenance? We’ve got you covered with tools, expertise, and support for every rider.

Bama Bikes

Students, faculty, and staff can rent bicycles on a month to month basis. These rentals provide a cost-effective, alternative means of transportation around campus and surrounding areas.

Bike Shop

Outdoor Recreation offers a full-service bike shop for personal bicycles. Patrons can bring their bikes in for a wide range of repairs ranging from flat fixes to major tune-ups.

University Recreation has teamed up and the State Bicycle Company to offer students, staff, faculty, and community members the opportunity to purchase bikes from the Bike Shop.

Bama Bikes

Undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff have the opportunity to rent bicycles. These rentals provide a cost-effective, alternative means of transportation around campus and surrounding areas. Included with Bama Bike Rentals is a monthly bike cleaning to prevent wear and tear and a bike lock and key.

How to request a bike

  1. Fill out a Bike Request Form.
  2. When we have a bike available in your size, we will call you to take payment over the phone and reserve the bike. During this call, we will schedule a time for pick up.
    If we are unable to reach you via phone, we will send a follow-up email asking for a time to call.
  3. Visit our shop (400 Peter Bryce Boulevard, in the loop facing the Softball fields) and we will have you sign forms and issue your bike.

Pricing

Bama Bikes can be rented by members of the UA community for $20 a month or $60 a semester. You can rent the bikes at the Outdoor Recreation office, located on the second floor of the Student Recreation Center. Once the bike rental period has expired, return your bike to the Outdoor Recreation office. Late fees are $10 a day for the first 14 days. After 15 days the full replacement cost is charged.

Bike Shop

Outdoor Recreation offers a full-service bike shop for personal bicycles. Patrons can bring their bikes in for a wide range of repairs ranging from flat fixes to major tune-ups and everything in between. There is a fee associated with this service.

Services

  • Flat Patch | $3 each | Includes labor on existing tube
  • Flat Fix | $14 each | Includes new tube and labor
  • Minor Tune-Up | $25 each | Includes front and rear brake adjustments, front and rear derailleur adjustments, chain lube, and safety inspection.*
  • Major Tune-Up | $45 each | Minor Tune-Up plus hub, headset, bottom bracket adjustments, and front and rear wheel tires.

If more extensive repair is needed, mechanics will notify you concerning additional costs.

Adjustments

Tickets under $35 will be worked on without approval unless the owner specifically asks for a quote. Tickets over $35 will require quote approval. Bikes requiring overhauls instead of adjustments will be contacted with appropriate pricing.

Buy A Bike

University Recreation has teamed up and the State Bicycle Company to offer students, staff, faculty, and community members the opportunity to purchase bikes!

How to Purchase a Bike

  1. Go to the State Bicycle Co. website
    1. Pick out your bike.
    2. Pick out any options or equipment. (You can order anything currently on the State Bicycle Co. website)
  2. Fill out and submit your OR Bike Special Order Form.

Pricing

  • The price will be as shown on the State Bicycle Co. website.
  • How does this save you money? Here is what the price includes:
    • Shipping/Handling – Up to $100
    • Bike Build – $50
    • Initial adjustments – $25
    • Initial Safety Check – $25
    • 3 Free Safety Checks – $75

What happens after you submit your form?

  1. After we have received your special-order form, we will confirm the product(s) are in stock and confirm the price.
  2. We will call you to take payment. You will receive two phone calls, one week apart. You will need to answer and/or call the Rental Center back 205-348-7045.
  3. If any of your options are unavailable, we will contact you to discuss other options.
  4. Your order will be placed after payment is received.
  5. We ship the product to the Outdoor Recreation Bike Shop, perform a bike build and initial adjustments.
  6. We call you to set up a time to come pick up your new bike!

Campus Bike Registration

Registering your bike is free and easy with online registration. Log in with your myBama account, choose next and then select Permit page, at which time you can choose the Bike Permit option.
