Requirements for Employment
To work on-campus, students must be enrolled at least part-time in a UA degree program during the academic year (fall and spring semesters). For undergraduates, that is a minimum of six credit hours. All of our positions require an excellent attitude and willingness to learn, the ability to obtain required certifications, and the availability to work a flexible schedule – to include some early mornings, evenings, weekends and/or holiday hours as needed, approximately 10 hours per week.
All students selected for hire must complete USCIS Form I-9 for Employment Eligibility Verification. This form requires new employees to provide documentation to their employers to show their identity and authorization to work. All identification documents must be unexpired and presented in their original format – copies, photos, or scans cannot be accepted. Aquatics
Lifeguard – Apply Now
Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of members by surveilling pool activities and enforcing all University Recreation policies, rules, and regulations, and work to prevent and respond effectively to emergencies as needed. This position works at multiple facilities, including the Aquatic Center, Student Recreation Center, and Outdoor Pool Complex, and is a critical member of the facility Emergency Action Plan.
Facility Operations
Facility Operations Associate – Apply Now
Facility Operations Associates provide administrative and customer service support for all University Recreation facilities as part of the Facility Operations team. Responsibilities include providing excellent customer service, monitoring and cleaning weight room and cardio areas, surveying program areas for member safety, member access, equipment checkout, and problem-solving.

Fitness Programs
Group Exercise Instructor
A Group Exercise Instructor is a dedicated professional who guides individuals or groups in achieving their health and fitness goals. They design and lead exercise routines, provide expert guidance on proper techniques, and inspire and motivate participants to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Fitness instructors play a vital role in fostering physical well-being within UREC and our campus community. Applicants must submit a copy of their fitness certification to be considered for this position. Certification bodies accepted by Fitness Services are: GFI certification from ACE, AFAA, ISSA, NASM, or any Yoga Alliance recognized certification.
Group Exercise Supervisor
The Group Exercise Supervisor plays a pivotal role within our fitness team, working in tandem with the Group Exercise Program Assistant under the guidance of our Fitness Coordinator. This position is dedicated to offering unwavering support to our staff, participants, and the broader community. Responsibilities include assisting in program development, ensuring policy adherence, and enhancing the overall program experience. Additionally, this role encompasses recruitment, conducting meetings, providing training, conducting evaluations, and coordinating special events, all with the aim of continually improving our fitness program and community engagement.
Pilates Instructor
The Pilates Reformer Group Instructor will plan and lead fitness classes that incorporate a Pilates Reformer machine. Conduct fitness classes in a fun, safe, and effective manner that meet University Recreation guidelines at the direction of the Fitness Program Coordinator. Provides an encouraging and motivating environment while helping participants to achieve their fitness goals. Applicants must submit a copy of their Pilates certification to be considered for this position. Certification bodies accepted by Fitness Services are: Balanced Body, Polestar Pilates, The Pilates Center, Streamline Pilates.
Membership
Membership Associate
UREC Membership Staff provides excellent customer service to all members and guests by sharing accurate information about UREC services, membership programs, facility features, and hours of operation. This position registers and updates memberships, collects membership fees, as well as follows and applies all UREC policies relating to membership services.
Outdoor Recreation
Outdoor Recreation Associate
Outdoor Recreation Associates operate all aspects of the rental center and are expected to provide excellent customer service for all users. Once proven in the rental center, this position has opportunities to work in the bike shop, the climbing wall, and lead outdoor recreation trips.
Personal Training
Personal Trainer
Personal Trainers design safe and effective personal training programs for individual clients, adapting the strength training program to each member’s specific needs and abilities. They will also instruct members in the strength training principles, training procedures, and exercise techniques as well as instruct members of the proper and preferred use of all the strength training equipment.
Applicants must submit a copy of their CPR and Personal Training certification to be considered for this position. Certification bodies accepted by Fitness Services are: NASM, ACSM, ACE.
Personal Training Program Assistant
The Program Assistant represents the highest student leader position attainable for Fitness Services. The intent of this position is to assist in providing educational and recreational opportunities to our UREC staff and community. The incumbent will aid in our program’s betterment through supervision of Personal Training staff, program development and execution, policy enforcement and conflict resolution. Additional duties include assisting with staff training and meetings; recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating student staff; assisting with special events and camps; other duties as assigned.
Marketing
Graphic Design Associate
Graphic Design Associates will provide design, technical, and production support for a variety of promotional materials for University Recreation. Responsibilities for this position include assisting in the layout and design of social media graphics, flyers, posters, postcards, newsletters, and signage, preparation of all artwork for print and assisting with the planning and development of marketing campaigns for various UREC departments and programs.
Social Media Manager
The Social Media Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing our social media strategy across various platforms including Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. This role works within the marketing team to create engaging content, grow our online community and enhance brand awareness across our social platforms.
Photography Associate
Photography associates will deliver a wide range of photos from multiple University Recreation events and programs. They will be responsible for producing an acceptable quantity and variety of photographs of assigned subject(s).
Sport Programs
Intramural Sports Official
Intramural Officials will provide officiating and score keeping support for a variety of intramural and club team sports during the 2023-24 academic year, including Flag Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, and Dodgeball. No prior experience is required; free training will be provided for each sport.
